Website Purpose

These pages are intended to help you learn about jewelry making and other arts in the Middle Ages and ancient times.

Through my own research for my craft, I have established an extensive collection of books, articles, and web pages that aid me.  I am hoping that they also serve as a resource for you to create your own treasures.

As I work on my own projects, I will place photographs and descriptions of them on the projects page.  As I teach classes, I will also place my handouts in this area for you to share.

I have created a mini index to Jewellery Studies, the publication of the Society of Jewellery Historians that you may find useful in aiding your own research.

Current Events

I recently created multiple, heraldic display projects for the East Kingdom's Crown Tourney held on November 3rd, 2007.  The following projects were completed: a blue linen heraldic sideless surcote with a stamped diapering of white acorns, silk veil, matching blue fillet, fighting mantle, painted cloth shield cover, and a painted silk banner for Roger Stockton.  I did not take photographs of any of the items, unfortunately.   However you can clearly see the shield in this photo taken by Liam St Liam.  Many thanks to Ophelia and Haldan for their "arm twisting" and help.  ~I miss you guys.

I've started a Livejournal to track some projects.  You are welcome to visit, just let me know. I'm kind of weird about opening the whole journal up to "everyone."  http://apolloniavoss.livejournal.com/

A Flickr account was set up when I returned from Gulf Wars in 2007.  There are load of shots from that event.  You'll also see silk banner painting, building a clay bead kiln, and me making my first wheel thrown pottery bowl.

Who am I?

I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval history recreation group. In this world I am known as Apollonia Voss (pictures), an Eastern Frank by descent, who has chosen to pursue her craft in the most glorious of locales, Byzantium.  I was first a jewelry artisan but am often taken to experimenting in new art and craft forms. Research seems to be my bent of late.

I am a member of the Black Dragon Company, a resident of the Shire of Owlsherste(Reste) in the Kingdom of the East and the apprentice of Mistress Brianna Yseulte Wynman, Crafty Fox Artworks.
