Knitted Roman Britain Necklace with Glass Beads This necklace is inspired by one type of Roman Britain necklace (show in The Jewellery of Roman Britain: Celtic and Classical Traditions) and features a lamp worked eye bead as the focal point. The pure silver chains were created using the trichinopoly technique. The clasp and beaded segments are in sterling silver. The handmade beads match the colors and shapes found in the same time and locale as the extant necklaces. (cataloged and described by Margaret Guido in The Glass Beads Anglo-Saxon England c. A.D. 400-700.:A Preliminary Visual Classification of the More Definitive And Diagnostic Types.) All components of this piece were made by thyne own hand. |
