Apollonia's Projects

Much has happened since these first projects in 2007.

Current and recent photos are in a Flickr Silk Painting collection.

Above are photographs of my current project: a dyed silk pennon and gonfalon.  I am awaiting some advice before moving along. I am unhappy with the richness of the red dye.  It looks quite faded to me. 2/7/07

Here are pictures after an additional application of red.  I used more dye and less alcohol and water in the second application.  I am hoping these will look better from a distance. I am unhappy with the dye bleeds and spritzs. 2/9/07

Next they'll need to be dried & cut out.  Then I'll need to steam set the dyes.

This project is being made from the instructions of Bartholomew Hightower.

Addendum:  The steam setting process was a mess.  The dyes ran and I really did not like the colors that came out of the pot.  After discussions with other folks, I tried a heat set brand of dyes called Setasilk to create three new banners for myself.  I liked how it came out so much, that I made a six foot standard for my household.

Pictures of the Black Dragon Company standard. I am told it looked great when flying, but I haven't seen it yet.

About five more banners are in the project hopper.  One (actually it will end up being version 3) for Roger Stockton to use at Crown Tourney.  Another for Andreas Morgan, friend and former household brother.  Erica Rothall will finally get a banner that I promised more than 5 years ago, but this one will be much better than the other I started to appliqué.  After that Ophelia Osborne and Haldan Sheildwrecker will each receive their own banners.   I seem to be on a roll with these.  ~October 11, 2007
